Liquid or Powder - Which is the Better Laundry Detergent?

Liquid or Powder - Which is the Better Laundry Detergent?

When it comes to laundry, people are often left to decide which type of detergent to use. Between liquid and powder laundry detergent, which provides the best results when washing clothes? The answer lies in what type of fabrics you are cleaning and the type of stains that you want to remove.

Powder Detergent

Powder and liquid detergents are both effective in laundry work. One type of laundry detergent just becomes more effective in stain removal and fabric cleaning depending on various factors.

Powder detergent is the best type of detergent to use when treating and removing stains caused by spills of wine, tea or blueberry on clothes. A powder manufacturer usually includes bleaching ingredients in powder detergents, making them effective in removing such stains. Powder detergent also incorporates optical brighteners, which help to retain the quality of the colours of clothes, particularly those whites and light coloured fabrics.

When to Use Liquid

For coloured fabrics, it is best to mix liquid detergents into the washing machine. Liquid detergent with powerful surfactants and optical brighteners are the best to pick for laundry work. They protect the clothes from deterioration and the optical brighteners help enhance the appearance of the fabrics.

Because liquid detergents usually do not include bleaching components, they do not break down the dyes in the fabric. Liquid detergent works well in removing oil-based stains, which appear rather prominent on coloured clothes.

Finding the Best Detergent

There is no clear winner when it comes to powder and liquid detergents. Both can work efficiently for stain removal, but the types of stain and fabric have to be determined before deciding on which detergent to use.

Choosing a detergent is also not dependent on being powder or liquid. The quality of the detergent is actually the main determining factor when choosing what to use. Look for premium grade detergent with powerful stain-removing ingredients and optical brighteners. Not only should dirt and stain be removed. One should also be mindful that the detergent is not too harsh so as to damage the clothes.

There are different types of liquid and powder detergents available from detergent manufacturers. There are stronger types with polymer additives or oxygen bleaching ingredients to assist in the whitening action. The detergent may also be formulated to suit certain types of washing machines. It would be best to assess and determine the types of detergents that work best with the machine being used.
